Excellent
How to use it:
Choose a physical place related to the field of research. Experience and document the research with sketches, notes, photos, etc.

When to use it:
When literature research is not sufficient. When the direct experience makes the research more reliable. When my subjective point of view is needed and a direct experience is possible.

Reflection:
Direct experiences can help the research whenever a close look to contemporary phenomena is needed. It may be the case when confusion arises from literature research because of too many different ideas.

Having real references can as well improve the quality of drawings because the relationship with reality is not mediated by somebody else.
